It’s easy to feel like you missed the blogging train. I clearly remember reading blogs from my blogging heroes: devouring posts on the latest scuba adventure in Thailand, pouring over their income reports, trying to figure out what I could and couldn’t do from that information, dreaming of living the lifestyle.
I get excited when I see a new blog launched and I don’t see it as competition. The blogging world economy is roughly about $3 billion and I’m only looking to get $10,000 per month out of that pot of money, so $120,000 per year. As you can see, there is plenty of room for my blog and your blog. If fact, I think your blog will help me make more money and my blog will help you.
As I write this, I am very tired. It’s a Sunday afternoon while I am typing out these words and I wish I could just go for a nap or watch a Stephen King movie on Netflix, but I have a goal I must reach and excuses are not acceptable.
Haven’t you heard? Blogging is dead (again), but this time it is absolutely for real no take backs 100% dead and there is a 0% chance it will make a comeback. I’m writing this post to let all the people who visit this blog know that it, along with the other 600+ million blogs in the world, is dead, or at least gonna be dead because that’s what I heard some guy with the user handle on Twitter ButtManBuns676767 say, so it must be a real thing.
I often talk about the importance of blogging on third party platforms: 1.) introduces you to a new audience 2.) gives you more authority across the web 3.) drives traffic to your home blog 4.) teaches you a new trick or two 5.) easier to connect with other writers to help both of you grow.
While many slop factory websites have seen steep declines in audience there is no evidence to suggest that gloom and doom is called for (unless you were employed by or own a slop factory website, then you may need to consider pivoting wildly, but for the rest of us the time has never been better to get into the blogging game).
How do you like that title? It should read 5 Ways To Overcome Ego To Build A Successful Blog but I took out two “to” words. The title sounds like a caveman wrote it. Why? I decided to override my ego that likes me to sound smart and instead write a clunky title that disrupts people out of their unconscious scanning patterns of the Google SERP results.
